Passons à un moment important : le vernis. Sur les conseils d'un ami, j'ai utilisé le vernis bi composant AK ULTRA GLOSS VARNISH (ref AK9040). Il y a dans la boite un flacon de vernis, un flacon de durcisseur, un flacon de diluant et deux seringues graduées pour le dosage.
Le ratio recommandé est de 3 parts de vernis pour un part de durcisseur, on rajoute ensuite du diluant selon nos habitudes et/ou matériel, et on mélange bien le tout avant de le verser dans le godet de l'àérographe.
Pour l'application, il faut pulvériser au moins 3 fines couches, chacune espacée de 15 minutes. Pour éviter tout durcissement du produit dans mon aéro, j'ai péféré prérer le mélange avant chaque couche, je n'était pas sur qu'il puisse rester 30/40
minutes dans le godet sans durcir.
Le résultat final est excellent et peut être un peu trop brillant pour des voitures récentes mais parfait pour des groupes C. Ceci dit, il faut compter avec une mise en oeuvre un peu plus délicate et une grande toxicité du produit. Il faut IMERATIVEMENT utiliser une cabine de peinture,
porter un masque anti vapeus toxiques et bien aérer la pièce où vous travaiillez.
All right, time for an important step : final varnish. Taking in account the advices of a qualified friend of mine, I've used the two components Ultra Gloss Varnish from AK (ref 9040). You find in the box 1 bottle of varnish, 1 bottle of hardener, 1 of thinner and two graduated syringes for the mixing ratio.
It is advised to use 3 parts of varnish for 1 part of hardener, adding the amount of thinner as per your material/ way of working. Mix thoroughly and pour it into the tank of your air brush.
You have to spray at least 3 thin coats, allowing 15 mins drying between each coat. I was not sure a prepared mix could stay 30/40 mins in my airbrush before becoming hard, thus I've prepared the amount needed for each layer before spraying each coat.
I must say the result is great ! Maybe a little bit too shiny for modern cars, but fine for old group C. Anyway you must keep in mind it is a little bit more complex to use, and you SHALL wear a protective mask against toxic vapours, spray in a spraying booth in a well ventilated area.
