Après l'échec de 2008 et face à la toute nouvelle Audi R15, les chances de Peugeot étaient moins
évidentes. Pourtant dès les essais les 908 étaient toujours aux avants postes, même si avant de chasser la pôle
l'équipe Française a pris son temps pour régler, ajuster et affiner les voitures. C'est Stéphane Sarrazin qui à
eu l'honneur de taquiner le chrono. En 3'22"888 il devance Mc Nish et la meilleure Audi de 8/10e. Viennent ensuite les 3 autres
Peugeot, puis les deux dernières Audi R15.
Pour Peugeot l'édition 2009 se déroulera quasi parfaitement. Si le début de course fut chaud (accochage entre la 7 et la 17,
au 1er ravitaillement) jamais Audi ne fut réellement en mesure de dominer les 908. En fait la R15 n°1 ne prendra le
commandement que pour un seul tour (au 12eme) sur les 382 que comptera la course. Si la domination des 908 est moins criante, elle
fut plus construite et plus solide qu'en 2008. D'ailleurs dès 4 heures du matin, ordre sera venu des stands de figer les positions des voitures
9 et 8 (alors premières et deuxièmes) au grand dam de Montagny-Sarrazin-Bourdais qui, retardés à 20H26 par un
problème de roues, pensaient bien remonter le tour et demi de retard qu'ils avaient sur la n°9.
Au final, Brabham-Gené et Wurz (les "guerriers" de l'équipe Peugeot) les plus épargés s'imposeront, offrant ainsi
le doublé à la marque Française.
After the failure of 2008 and facing the brand new Audi R15, Peugeot seems not to be as favourite as last year. But from the
practices to the Chequered flag, the 908 were always in the top of the pack. After a long time in adjusting the cars to the track, Stéphane
Sarrarin was allowed to chase after the pole. With a flying lap of 3"22"888, he gets the pole, 8/10th ahead the Audi driven by
Allan Mc Nish. On the grid, Peugeot takes the 1st, 3rd, 4th and th5 place. Audi just manage to
qualify 2nd, 6th and 7th.
After a difficult begining (collision between the n° 7 and 17 in the pits) the race will be in the hand of Peugeot. Only one lap was led by the
n°1 Audi. Even if it was less impressive, the Peugeot domination on the race was stronger than in 2008. In fact, since 4 in the morning it was possible
to order to the drivers of the n° 9 and 8 to keep their positions. That worried Montagny-Sarrazin-Bourdais, second at this time which think
they're were able to catch up after a wheel problem at 20H26.
In the end, Brabham-Gené et Wurz (called "the warriors" by the team) were the most regulrars and won the race with the 908n°9 one lap
ahead the n° 8.
