Tout avait bien commençé. Après des qualifications studieuses (11 eme LMP2) L'oreca n°48 remontait rapidement en course : quatrième du LMP2 en deuxième heure, seconde en troisième puis première en quatrième, la voiture du VDS Panis racing entammait
ensuite un duel très serré avec l'Oreca de l'Inter Europol Competition n°43. On trouvait d'ailleurs régulièrement GRAY - MASSON et PERERA en tête à l'échéance horaire.
En dernière heure, la n°48 est seconde de sa catégorie avec moins de 20 secondes de retard sur la n°43 quand l'Oreca Inter Europol est pénalisée d'un Drive Through pour exces de vitesse dans les stands. Estéban Masson s'empare alors du leadership en LMP2, avec une avance relativement correcte. Tout est joué ? Non,
nous sommes aux Mans et c'est Le Mans qui choisit ses vainqueurs. Dans les derniers tours un maudit triangle de suspension casse, rendant la n°48 inconduisible au dire de son pilote. Plus le temps de réparer et Masson doit faire au mieux, mais ses chronos se dégradent beaucoup si bien que la n°43 reprend la tête à quelques minutes de l'arrivée.
Heureusement le VDS Panis Racing réussira à sauvegarder sa médaille de bronze.
All started quite well. After busy practices and qualifications (11 th LMP2) the n°48 made a strong come back early in the race : Fourth in class at the end of the second hour, second at the end of the third one and first at the end of the fourth hour. The VDS Panis Racing started then a frantic battle with the
n°43 Oreca from Inter Europol Competition. By the way GRAY - MASSON and PERERA were often seen leading the race at the end of each hour.
In the last hour, the n°48 is second, only 20 seconds behind the n°43 when the yellow and green Oreca had a Drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Estéban Masson take this opportunity to take the lead in LMP2 with a relatively comfortable margin. The writting is on the wall ? No ! Because we are at Le Mans and this race chose its winners ! A couple of minutes before
the chequered flag, a cursed A-arm broke on the n°48 making the car undriveable according to its driver. No time to repair, Masson shall cope with this, but his lap times are getting really slow and the Yellow and green n° 43 manage to take the chaquered flag ! Fortunately the VDS Panis Racing
suceed to save a well desserved silver medal.
