Voilà un résultat inespéré pour Buemi, Nakajima et Alonso. Arrivés au Mans en leaders du championnat, ils étaient partagés entre
deux objectifs : rouler asser prudemment pour sécuriser le championnat ou attaquer pour empocher une seconde victoire.
En fait, dès la journée test, il est apparu que la TS050H n°8 évoluait un ton en dessous de sa soeur, la n°7. Si lors des qualifications, l'équipage de la 8 a légèrement
rattrapé son retard, il y avait quand même 0.411s d'écart vis à vis de Conway, Kobayashi et Lopez.
En course les deux Toyota prenaient le large mais c'était bien la 7 qui s'échappait tour après tour. La 8 étant bien incapable de suivre le rythme malgré le forcing de ses pilotes.
Avec plus d'une minutre de retard au bout de 3 heures, la messe semblait dite. Pourtant, les safety cars permettaient à la moins rapide des deux TS050H de s'accrocher et de rester dans le même tour que le leader.
Et c'est peu avant la fin de la 23eme heure qu'intervient "l'évenement" : la n°7; s'arrête pour changer de pneu à cause d'une crevaison. Avec plus de 2 minutes d'avance, il ne devrait pas y avoir de problèmes.
Mais à peine reparti, José-Maria Lopez est signalé au ralenti avec une autre crevaison. Il doit retourner aux stands et cette fois ci la 8 qui prend la tête. Malgré leur forcing, Conway, Kobayashi et Lopez ne rattraperont pas
la TS050H n°8. Buemi, Nakajima et Alonso gangnent leurs 2eme 24 Heures du Mans
Après la course, on apprendra qu'en fait une erreur de montage dans les capteurs de pression des pneus a indiqué une crevaison sur le mauvais pneu, entrainant les 2 arrêts...
That was an unexpected result for Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso. Arrived in Le Mans as leader of the championship, they had two differents goals : either secure the championship with a "conservative pace" or driving flat out and try to win Le Mans for the
second time.
From the test day, the TS050H n°8 already showed a lack of pace regarding its sister car. During the qualification, the n°8 succeed to reduce the gap to only 0.411s with Conway, Kobayashi and Lopez but the start of the race showed the problem was not solved.
Despinte their hard drive, Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso were not able to follow the pace of the n°7 and were more than a minute behind the leader after only 3 hours. Only the safety cars periods allowed the n°8 to stay in the same lap.
The "action" took place juste before the end of the 23rd hour. The leading Totota n°7 returns to the pits with a puncture. Considering it's 2 minutes gap with the n°8, there is no fear. But shortly after being back on the track, Jose Maria Lopez
is slow, with a flat tyre ! Time to go back to the pits and change another tyre, Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso on the n°8 took the lead and despite the come back of Lopez, they keep it until the chequered flag and won Le Mans for the second time!
After the race, we were said that a mistake in the mounting of the tyre pressure detector gave a wrong tyre failure localisation to the crew of the n°8, and that was the cause aof the 2 stops of the n°8...
