Dernière lauréate des 12 Heures de Sebring face aux usines Audi et Peugeot, l'équipe Oreca comptait
bien faire plus que de la figuration grâce à une stratégie aggressive mais raisonnable. Leur 908 version 2010 leur permettant bien des espoirs.
Qualifiée aux septième rang derrière les voitures 6 usines, la 908 n°10 rend presque 4 secondes à la pôle mais possède près
de 3 secondes d'avance sur la meilleure essence.
La course est menée à un rythme d'enfer mais malgré une cadence soutenue, Lapierre, Duval et Panis ne peuvent suivre les voitures usine.
Par contre les essences sont vite larguées. Hélas à 2H18 Loïc Duval sort à la chicane Playstation. Le temps de revenir aux stands et de remplacer le demi train
Avant Droit et la voiture chute à la 8eme place, laissant à la Pescarolo n°16 le leadership des voitures privées.
Repartis le couteau entre les dents, les pilotes de la 10 referont leur retard et, malgré une nouvelle sortie de route à Indianapolis, Lapierre, Duval et Panis reprendront leur place
de premier privé et finiront 5emes. Beau résultat, certes, mais Le Mans n'est Pas Sebring...
Last winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring, against Peugeot and Audi works cars, the Oreca team thought they could make more than simply "follow" the race, thanks to an aggressive strategy and a well
known and reliable 908 HdI FAP of 2010.
Qualified 7st behind the works entries, the Peugeot n°10 is nearly 4 seconds behind the pole however, but is nearly 3 seconds faster that the best petrol car.
The pace of the race is very high and despite a strong attack, Lapierre, Duval and Panis are not able to follow the works cars. By contrast, the petrol cars are far behind. So all is fine until 2.18 in the morning when
Duval get out of the track at the Playstation chicane. Time to go back to the pits and to replace the right frond end and the car goes donw to the 8th position and let the Pescarolo n°16 taking the lead of the
private entries class.
Back to the track ready for a good fight, Lapierre, Duval and Panis, will go back and, despite an new way out, overtake the Pescarolo for the lead of the private class. They finally finish 5th, a good result of course, but
Le Mans is not Sebring.
