Qui l'eut crû ? Qui aurait pu imaginer un podium 100% Audi ?
Ni à l'issue des essais, ni après les premières heures de course on aurait pu imaginer un pareil scénario.
Bien qu'amplement retravaillées durant l'intersaison, les R15+ étaient toujours assez loin des Peugeot en performance mais
restaient toujours une menace permanente, mettant la pression à l'équipe Française.
Peu a peu le travail de sape à porté ses fruits. Les Peugeot étant victimes d'incidents plus ou moins graves. Quand
la 908 de tête abandonna dans les hunaudières, l'Audi R15 + de Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas et Mike Rockenfeller prit la tête.
La charge furieuse de la Peugeot n°1 fit croire un instant que rien était joué mais la fiabilité retrouvée de la
marque aux anneaux ouvrit grandes les portes du triomphe aux R15+.
Deux sorties de piste, un caméraman renversé et c'en est déjà fini de la liste des incident imputables aux Audi officielles. Increvables, les R15+
on même réussi toutes les trois à battre le record à la distance "mythique" établi par la Porsche 917K de Marko et
Van Lennep en ... 1971.
Avec la nouvelle réglementation qui interviendra dès 2011, gageons que ce nouveau record de 5410 Kms parcourus en 24 Heures n'est
pas prêt d'être battu.
Who could even imagine such result ? How many people bet on a three-in-a-row for Audi ?
Neither after the practices nor the first hours of the race we could think to such scenario. Despite they were heavily improved during the winter, the Audi R15+
were still not in the pace of the 908. Not in the pace but not so far however and they managed to put the pressure on the French team. This "undermining"
gaves results when, after various problems, the plague of the Peugeot was finally revealed as the leading 908 stopped in the Mulsanne straight giving the lead
to Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller. The furious charge of the Peugeot n°1 made us believing the game was not over but finally the
reliability opened the doors of glory for Audi.
Two spins out of the track, one cameraman knocked over in the pits and the list of the problems for all the 3 Audis is over. Tireless, the three R15+ managed to breake the
"mythic" record established by Marko and Van Lennep behind the wheel of their Porsche 917K in...1971.
With the new regulation for 2011, we guess that new distance of 5410 kms for 24 Hours is not to be beaten soon.
