Pas banal de voire une Courage officielle en rouge ! Surtout quand celle ci est inscrite en LMP2
avec un Moteur AER turbo alors que quelques semaines plus tôt cette même voiture était
bleue avec un V6 JPX...
En fait, Courage veut promouvoir son nouveau modèle pour la catégorie LMP2 et engage donc
deux C65 officielles. Mais suite aux déconvenues lors des essais préliminaires et aux insolubles
problèmes financiers liés au V6 JPX (devenu Mécachrome...) Yves Courage a modifié
en catastrophe un de ses chassis C65 et lui a greffé le 4 cylindres en ligne turbo AER de 1995 cm³.
Pour signifier son mécontentement vis a vis du motoriste, Courage a repeint la voiture en rouge. Si ce
changement dans l'urgence l'a obligé à retirer sa deuxième voiture, côté
performances ce fut 100% positif puisque la C65 AER fut 8 secondes plus rapide en juin que la C65 JPX en avril.
Il en sera de même pendant la course. Après un flamboyant départ la C65 devra se retirer sur
problèmes moteurs. Toujours pas fiable le bloc AER.
Ceci dit, cette démonstration de vélocité a marqué les acheteurs potentiels. Yves en
aura une bonne démonstration l'année suivante.
Completely unknown to see an official Courage in red !!! Especially whent it's enrolled in LMP2 with an
AER turbo engine, even though a few weeks earlier this same car was blue with an unblown V6 JPX...
In fact Courage was promoting it's "all new" model for the LMP2 category and decides to use two officials C65's. But
following unexpected problems during the april practices and unresolvable financial problems due to the V6 JPX (now
Mecachrome) Yves Courage modified one of his C65 chassis as fast as was humanly possible and adapted the 1995 CM3
4 cylinders AER turbo. Just to show the JPX engine makers how unhappy he was with their performance, Courage re-painted his
car red. Even though this radical change forced him to retract his second car, as far the performance is concerned this
was probably the wisest decision he made due to the fact that during the qualifying in June, the C65 AER was 8 seconds faster
than the C65 JPX in April. After a fantastic start, the C65 had to abandon the race (engine failure), AER engine still
not up to scratch !!!
All said and done this demonstration of speed gave potential buyers their money's worth. Yves had enough under his hat to
give them a good demonstration the following year
